This story begins with a lovely couple in their 70s booking out the entire Nimmo Bay resort, years in advance to bring together their family (kids and grandchildren included). The “surprise” purpose of their trip was to celebrate their love after many years together; they said “weddings are for the young people” but wanted to do something special. The couple had some ideas about what they hoped for, but the Nimmo Bay team asked if they could do a bit more to help make it even more special and, with approval, took it from there!
On the evening of the “wedding,” the team arranged for special cocktails and canapes outside on the fire dock before ushering the family into the dining room. To their surprise, the entire place was adorned with candles and decorations, along with a big screen playing a slideshow the happy couple had supplied. At this point, they announced this was a surprise wedding of sorts, and the shocked family witnessed a magical exchange of vows ceremony.
Meanwhile, the staff transported a piano to the dock for live music, and when the family left the dining room, the entire Nimmo Bay crew was waiting outside, clapping and celebrating with the awed family. Champagne was poured, but not before the newly wedded wife sabred the magnum bottle of bubbly! As the cork flew through the air and into the ocean, it only took a few seconds before one of the Nimmo Bay guides dove into the water to save it for memorabilia–amazing! The couple took the cork home and framed it for their wall as a keepsake of their “wedding” at Nimmo Bay. Of course, there was food, cake, family photos, and happy tears to follow!
