We had informed them we did not like beef and pork and the dishes we had were generally super except for one night when we were offered a slab of Tofu. Comfortable lodge - but could do with an easy chair. Wifi generally worked better than we anticipated - even in the observation tower. Would certainly recommend it. Our cabin was one of the most distant (still only a very short walk to the main lodge) and it did not disappoint in comfort, amenities and GRIZZLY sightings! Our first morning, we were getting ready to head out early for the observation deck, and, remembering our guide's advice from the float the previous afternoon, looked both ways out the door before opening it. Not 12 feet away was a gorgeous grizzly eating the clover right off our deck. The bear was not at all bothered by us, so I put the kettle on for another cup of tea and we did our bear-gazing right in our own cabin. The staff came a bit later to safely escort us to breakfast; we saw them do this a few times, and they were always so respectful of the bears, gently shooing them away from people, but not bothering or alarming them. I think we saw bears 3 out of 4 days (even while in the hot tub having a glass of wine).
We had great hikes and floats and the guides never tired of our many questions. Even the drive to and from the airport was scenic and informative.
The food and beverages were delicious and the rest of the staff really attentive and helpful. I would HIGHLY recommend this lodge.
If we ever get to go back, we would probably book some private tours so that we could do some more strenuous hikes (or heli-hike, the weather wasn't conducive). read lesskathleenmS1226XH9/21/2020Wow. We went during prime salmon season so all the bears were fattening themselves up for hibernation. I'm sure this must have contributed to the amount of bears we saw but they never seemed to be too far away and the guides all knew the best spots to try and see them (Jessib, Ellie and Woodie were awesome!)
The accommodation is very nice, private cabins providing a secluded feeling with stunning views of the mountains. It was only a short walk down to the viewing platform from the cabins meaning an early stroll down was rewarded a few times with prime bear spotting. I would highly recommend spending as much time at the viewing platform as possible to maximise your chances of spotting some bears. Often we'd be there an hour earlier than other guests in the morning and they would end up missing out on the prime bear time.
The food is amazing and the chefs definitely know their stuff. It was nice and varied and left you feeling full and satisfied every evening. Followed by a nice chill out playing pool and backgammon led to a great feeling of relaxation after a busy day.
Almost everything you could possibly need was provided in the rooms including bug spray (a must for spending time by the river!) and binoculars. Definitely make sure you take a good quality camera and a tele lens is a must for the best shots!

The service team is incomparable...Allison, Jana, Marshall, Cole, Sarah, & Jessica...all brought their special personality & contributions to the resort. All incredibly warm and friendly people focussed on the highest quality experience. There is a closeness to the group that intensifies the feeling we enjoyed.
We had a great time with the activities...in particular the horesback riding and archery. I am not an experienced rider but felt prepared, comfortable and safe throughout. The archery was just a lot of fun!
The star camp is a must experience...from the wood fired hot tub, to the fire pit, to the beautiful tent accomodation with a view of the stars from your bed...we had not "glamped" before. We will certainly do so again! The experience was so wonderfully intimate...something we will never forget.

I felt like I was staying with family instead of at a hotel, even though they had all the amenities of a luxury resort. There was a big fire in the area surrounding the ranch in 2017. The regrowth happening now is a once in a lifetime sight to behold. I'm so glad we were able to see it before it all grows back. The forest looks like artwork with carbon black tree trunks surrounded by a sea of pink/purple flowers, golden grass and young greenery. Your own private getaway in an already amazing resort. We had four of us in the two tents. Not your normal tents, these two are a fine hotel room under canvas with a view to the starry skies. From sitting at the campfire, roasting marshmallows and 'smores for all, to the wood fired hot-tub (always wanted one of these at home) all under a vast starry sky, it is all an unbeatable experience. Then when climbing into the wonderful bed, lying back and settling in for the night, a glass roof above your head while you drift off. While lying back, comfortable, to look up at the sky it is truly like floating in space. Incredible.
As others have said, every small item has been thought through. Stargazing binoculars to add another dimension of wow to the stars, and when it starts to get light in the morning, before you're ready, a mask to let me linger.
The setting of the ranch is like nowhere else, away from all distractions, but with lots to do. I could have spent much more time there.
Yes, a fire has passed through, but it is amazing the resilience of the land, how green it is, and how much recovery has already taken place. It is a type of beauty I have never seen before and provided photo ops at every turn.
We are not particularly experienced riders so the knowledgeable calm with which the instruction and actual ride was conducted gave us the confidence to focus on enjoying the ride without worry. Wonderful horse selection for each of us.
All the activities are excellent, and then you start to anticipate your next meal, knowing it will be something special, because it always was.
I could go on and on, but will leave it here knowing I will think back often on the experience and cannot wait to share the adventure with friends and then plan for the next time we visit. read lessTMJamesca8/11/2019Luxury ranch in the most stunning setting We spent a week on the ranch. Kids loved the bike riding, hiking and river adventures. My husband enjoyed the fishing. This is a luxury ranch in a perfect setting, small things have been thought of - suntan lotion and insect spray a plenty if you haven’t brought your own. I really thought that when the Covid closures happened that I had reframed and re-assessed my priorities. My weekend at Nimmo took this to a whole new level. I have never in my adult life felt so ‘looked after’. All of my needs were met without me ever having to think about what those needs were : from food, to warmth, to safety, to footwear, to comfort. I never had to think about a thing. The guides were so incredibly knowledgeable. And not just ‘there’s a humpback, or ‘there’s a bear’, but in their unwavering awe and respect for our fellow beings and the natural environment that we share. We felt that we weren’t simply spectators, but that we were a part of a whole, and that we do not dominate but that we share this amazing wilderness. I have never before in my life experienced this. I have never felt such a part of the whole. The food at the lodge was ample, various, and delicious. The somellier Kyle was able to predict exactly what to pour into my glass. The guides : Dallas, Andy, Mike….your reverence and quiet confidence put me in a place where I could do nothing but appreciate. No fear; no hesitation; only love. Shauna with my decaf coffee every morning, Will with the plan for the day, and Dom with his confident constant presence and fascinating chatter. I wish that everyone could experience Nimmo. If they did, we would all reconsider our counsumer choices. We would all know what it is to be part of this ecosystem. We would all come back. I’m already planning my return to Nimmo. The guest experience was exceptional. The warm, welcoming and professional staff could not have been more accommodating and they did everything in their power to make our stay perfect. They have an amazing team, all unique individuals with an authentic and approachable manner. They were a huge part of why we enjoyed our time at Nimmo Bay.
We made the most of our stay with a relaxed no-rush attitude. On our first day our beloved guide Chris took us looking for black bears, and we found more than enough to observe. Another day we enjoyed morning yoga with Sarah, who heads their wellness program. In the afternoon we kayaked with Dom to their remote sauna dock, where the team at Nimmo had set up a romantic lunch for us, complete with wine and poetry, before they left us to enjoy time alone in the wilderness on our private sauna dock - complete with a bear leisurely feeding himself on the beach across from us.
Day 3 had us looking for whales and again, huge success. Our guide Chris got us in proximity of a big pod of Orca while they played and drifted right past our boat. We also found humpback whales, seals and sea lions...all in a day at Nimmo Bay and always cruising in their state-of-the-art vessels, the Fathom and the Raven.
Our last day had us hiking in the rainforest to their "Birdsnest", a wild apparatus set up in the trees to have the perfect view of grizzly bears feeding on the river. For our final lunch the team at Nimmo whisked us to "the point", a spot on a nearby private island to enjoy more time alone, where they once more catered a beautiful and romantic setting for us.
The most amazing thing was that the entire trip was customized seamlessly to match our hopes and wishes. It's as if they imagined every moment we would have and carved it out for us. We did all the activities we wanted to do, on our own time. We got wellness, yoga, massages and romance. And of course, utter bliss at all meals, the dining experience was sensational. The attention to detail was similar to other extremely high end places, but that’s not what’s important. It was that they addressed your needs as would a great friend and did so with a skill matched by the very fewest and most refined of their sort.

We did in fact see, and photograph, birds, bears and belugas, but it was the staff that really made the trip a success for us. Our small group of 14 guests was outnumbered by the attentive staff. Kitchen and housekeeping staff were always friendly and on top of our comfort and appetites, but the three men who lead the walks / rides really made the difference. They were our teachers, protectors, and for the week, friends. They could quickly call us by name. They dined with us, and taught us while walking and at casual evening discussion / slide show sessions. Their own varied backgrounds, so very different from ours, gave us each a very different perspective on world wide travel. Wetter than typical weather necessitated running schedule changes on short notice, but we were never without interesting topics to be seen, enjoyed, and discussed. Our group was represented by multiple countries and ages from a young teenager to those of us in our 70's, including a family with three generations traveling together. In addition to learning about the local wildlife, we learned about each other.

The Lodge, on the edge of the Hudson Bay, is extremely comfortable and the warmth of the building is matched by the warmth of the staff who are there to greet you and look after you during your visit. The location is very beautiful and the opportunities to see and photgraph wildlife very good. The guides who take you on the walks are extremely knowledgeable and your safety is paramount. I am astounded how such wonderful food is provided in such an isolated location. This is a great Lodge, staffed by highly skilled and supportive staff. The team work so well together. The weather in the winter can be challenging, but this is part of the sub Arctic experience. An great experience and not to be missed. read less

Therefore, our expectations for this trip in November 2018 were very high. But our first trip to Seal River Hertiage Lodge even exceeded our expectations. We first boarded our Calm Air flight from Winnipeg to Churchill and were greeted there by members of the Churchill Wild staff. We then continued on a small Caravan plane to the lodge.
At the lodge, we were greeted by our guides and the wonderful staff like we were family. The lodge is very comfortable and cozy and we immediately felt at home. The main attraction for sure is to be able to encounter polar bears on ground level, without any fences in between. This is an incredible experience!
But it is by far not the only highlight: There is plenty of other wildlife, from snowy owls to foxes to ptarmigans. And then, there are the northern lights. The guides will alert you, when these are visible, which in our case made for two short nights…
The food at the lodge is delicious. Breakfast options are hot and cold cereals, eggs, fruit, homemade bread and sometimes a surprise special. Lunch and dinner is served family style and every single meal was delicious. We enjoyed many nice discussions with our fellow travellers and with our guides and hosts during these meals and in front of the cozy fire place.
The lodge is very comfortable, especially given it‘s remote location directly on the coast of Hudson Bay. You have running (hot and cold) water, 24 hour electricity - and plenty of extra blankets and hot water bottles, should you feel cold at night.
The only negative aspect: leaving this place after 4 days doesn‘t feel right…! We will definitely be returning in the future. read lessarcticwild15/28/2020Nature and its Cycles that challenge wildlife and tourists. Wildlife is my life and I am privileged to have been involved for more than 30 years. In my short experience I have learnt that you are at the mercy of the weather. Something that is unpredictable even if you choose the best possible dates at prime times for your holiday.
In the time of visiting Churchill Wild lodges from Seal River to Nanuk Lodge the weather has always dealt a different set of conditions.
What I have experienced in my short time have been two early freeze ups and two years of very warm weather late into the season. The other 4 years were what the locals would say are normal predictable weather seasons.
When there is an early freeze the polar bears are in heaven meaning they can go out onto the ice and start hunting for seals. They have been slowly starving from June for nearly 6 months. With a longer warmer season the polar bears really suffer, desperate to get out and eat some of the weaker bears will not survive the winter when this happens.
So last year 2019 it was an early freeze and the bears were not waiting for anything or anyone at the first opportunity they were out onto the ice leaving the coastline, the lodges and guests including me. In 8 years this was the first time I did not see a bear while staying at a Churchill Wild lodge.
Understandably the guests were very disappointed having travelled so far for a dream experience. Thanks to Churchill Wild pulling out all the stops against tough weather conditions we were able get out of the lodge early and luckily see some of the last few bears around Churchill Town.
Nature and its cycles had disappointed us guests, not Churchill Wild, who run a first class ecotourism operation and did everything possible for every guest to at least see a wild polar bear! read lessIanJohnsonSafaris5/26/2020Amazing Experience Seal River Lodge was awesome, albeit freezing! I found it a bit challenging going on our hikes in the deep snow, with heavy gear on, but that was probably coming fromAustralia, & not being used to those conditions. All in all a great experience, just wish I had been better prepared to see the Northern Lights, eg better at using my camera & having a proper tripod & being prepared to put up with freezing fingers! read less

Outside, on the tundra (as winter approaches), there are polar bears to see, as well as ptarmigans, arctic hares and snowy owls. We even saw a wolf at a distance, and a few other critters. Guests walk around the tidal flats and tundra near the Lodge, guarded by up to three capable, friendly and knowledgeable guides who are also armed guards. They specialise in animal psychology which means they read and respond to the bear's body language in a way which defuses any too close approaches. We saw this happen, and they do it well. It's truly amazing to be on the ground with the bears, not locked inside a tundra buggy. Highly recommended, and the travel necessary to get to Seal River is an adventure in itself. read less

The guiding (Klemens and Ian) was really good - as we were 4 boarders we were perfectly accommodated with challenging tree terrain plus some fast and steeper alpine (no walking...). Had one down day but plenty to do (ask for Sparkles) and we appreciated the fresh snow afterwards. 24 hours from Powder to front door (London) was convenient too! read less
