Owners’ Top 2016 Memories

November. How did that happen?

Churchill Wild is still at it; while all other partners have wrapped up for the season. 2016 Offered some magnificent times not soon forgotten! Special thanks to our tireless staff for a fantastic season…and to all our adventurous guests, you are THE BEST!

We asked our owners for their top memory of 2016. It was a tough question! There were so many special moments, but here are a few that really stood out:
Tweedsmuir Park Lodge bear viewing
Tweedsmuir Park Lodge
Beat Steiner

Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is nestled in some of the most dramatic scenery in Canada, so we weren’t surprised when Beat’s favourite memory involved helis, hiking and gorgeous swimming holes:
“We spent a night at a helicopter accessed remote tented alpine glacier camp, with an 18 degree centigrade private swimming pool. The hiking was also superb. The mountain backdrop is one of the most stunning anywhere in the world.”

Join us next summer on our Bella Coola Explorer program; add in a heli adventure.

Allyson Rogers

Siwash Lake Wilderness Resort offers a culinary adventure on par with its exceptionally diverse activities. Allyson is proud to reveal they have ‘amped up’ the dining experience even more:
“Our highlight was opening the new Ridge Pavilion at the start of July, for elegant outdoor dining and lounging by the campfire. It is perched on the highest point of the property, with panoramic views of the eastern side of Siwash Lake, sweeping out over tree tops to the Marble Mountain range on the west.”

Colin Griffinson

The Pacific Yellowfin always finds the heart of the action. All our Great Bear Rainforest trips spotted a Spirit Bear this Fall! And Captain Colin also describes a truly unique experience with whales too:
“We witnessed the magnificent spectacle of humpbacks bubble-net feeding. Bubble-net feeding is when humpbacks swim in a tight circular wall beneath a school of fish and they shoot air out their blowhole to disorient and corral them. Eventually the whales lunge with their mouths open and take in many fish in one gulp! Just off the front of our bow we spotted a ‘bird-sign’, about one hundred seagulls in one spot. Suddenly, we saw tons of bubbles and SEVEN humpbacks popped up to the surface and feasted right in front of us!”

Mike Reimer

It’s a polar-bear-eat-beluga kind of world: one of the realities of life on Hudson Bay. Mike, owner of Churchill Wild, witnessed this Darwinesque event this past summer:
“My favourite memory of the season was capturing the first ever footage of polar bears hunting beluga whales from the rocks at Seal River. Another great memory was our Arctic glamping experience; guests especially enjoyed watching the interactions between polar bears and wolves on the Arctic Discovery at Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge."

Becky Eert

Nimmo is one of the most soulful places on the planet. This year the resort hosted its first wellness meditation retreat.
“It was so special to see the group practice QiGong, feast on healthy fare and connect to the spiritual aspect of the world around the resort. They chose to spend time in silence and enjoyed hiking, paddling and massaging. The experience concluded with a closing First Nations ceremony. It was powerful and rejuvenating.”

Find yourself at Nimmo next year. They are considering running more wellness departures in early May.
